Child Travel Safety Tips

I'm traveling with kids and it can be an experience especially if you don't know what to do...just sharing with you these things so that we all can relax, even a little!

*All children need their own seats on airplanes.
*If you plan to use a car seat on the plane, make sure that it's FAA approved.
*Ask about child-size emergency equipment.
*Keep your child belted at all times.
*Don't seat your child on the aisle.
*Accompany your child to the lavatory.

Clean As You Go!

Messies.com proposed these ideas to make living easier and more organized. One is to finish up unfinished projects or chores by looking around and spotting one TO DO and clear it out immediately. Sometimes really, doing an unfinished chore can be taxing but not clearing it is taxing too.

Like Doris Mortman's quote: "Until you make peace with who you are, you'll never be content with what you have." Meaning, you don't have to solve psychological problems in order to change your life for the better. Often, however, internal changes are a part of external changes.

Once these things becomes a habit, you will notice that even if you don't clean for a few days, it will still be organized because you've done exactly what you aimed for. And, you've set new standards on organizing!

Crosses

When crosses of life seems heavy to bear, don't ask God to lighten the cross, but ask Him to strengthen your back for you to carry it.

Just ask God to help you, and God will be there!

Wordstress: EFL and ESL

Most of us do not notice this or would think of this as the same, but Englishclub.com made clear the following points on this interchanging terms.

What is the difference between English as a Foreign Language and English as a Second Language?

Firstly, EFL is essentially a UK term whereas ESL is an American term. Beyond that, a distinction is made between teaching English to non-native speakers in a non-English speaking country (EFL) and teaching English to non-native speakers in an English-speaking country (ESL). This distinction does not seem to be well observed, and many British teachers use EFL as a blanket term whereas many American teachers use ESL as a blanket term. The same of course applies to TEFL and TESL.

(ESL ignores the fact that learners may well be on their third, fourth, fifth or sixth language. EFL, some people contend on purely pedagogical grounds, should stand for English as a First Language!).

Some Really Nice Wedding Favors

I found these at The Knot and these are really good suggestions as favors! My favorite? the pail!

Twilight

I'm presently reading Stephanie Meyer's first series Twilight and I'm 3/4 done already. I got the hardcopies courtesy of Tess who was kind enough to buy me those hardcopies (which I repaid later) when everybody else was trying to get their own. I'm still so overwhelmed with thanks because I got hardbound copies because of her.

I first got to meet Twilight when I saw the movie, and now, as I was reading the book, I kind of think and compare it to the movie than make my own version. So, it becomes a disadvantage to see the movie first before reading. But I just need to read it.

Reading through the pages, I can now understand more which the movie has edited. I knew each character better (and their names too!) and I just recently knew what Edward was dying of before he became the gorgeous vamp and what happened to his parents, and of course, of the 300plus year old Dr. Cullen. There were scenes and conversations in the book that was put together as one in the movie. Some scenes romantic enough but I guess it would take really long to just put it in the movie (like the scenes when they exchange questions about each other and Edward said 'I love you' to Bella which I did not hear in the movie).

And there's also the infamous clumsiness of Bella that was never part of the movie, and those Edward quips for Bella to take care of herself. Sigh. Now, I find the book better, than the movie ever will. But that wouldn't stop me from seeing the movie.

NOTE:

I discovered that they changed the director of the next series, New Moon. The director of Twilight was Catherine Hardwicke and now it would be Chris Weitz (who directed the ever-boring The Golden Compass). I hope he does justice to the movie and not make it another zzzzzz...(I've linked a profile so that you can see his past accomplishments and maybe it can be justified why he got the slot).

And, I think I have not given credit to Cam Gigandet who portrayed James (He was part of the O.C. series)

Un-Twilight

And if you wanna hear what's the Twilight OST...here's the link. And I agree with what Stephenie Meyer have said:

To conclude, I would like to make a few comments about Rob and Kristen, who are the true heart of this movie. First, they are both amazing actors. Second, they are channeling Edward and Bella like nobody's business. Third, you might want to bring a paper bag to the movie, because their on-screen chemistry may cause hyperventilation. That is all.

True Steph...I got that too.

8 Bathtub Activities

Bath time doesn't have to be a struggle, or even just a wash-and-go affair. Try these activities for tons of tub fun, and both you and your child will look forward to happy bath time. Your kids will love these splish-splashing bathtub games.

1. Make a hand puppet by sewing two washcloths together. Have the puppet talk to her in a funny voice as you soap her up with it.

2. Try the new shampoos and conditioners or "bath crayons" made of soap. These often have kid-friendly scents like strawberry and watermelon (but make sure your child understands they're not for eating!).

3. Sculpt your child's shampooed hair into different shapes. Let her peek in a handheld mirror to see how funny she looks.

4. Use a small sand shovel or other toy to wet and rinse your child's hair. This makes hair washing more fun, and he won't have to put his head under water if he doesn't want to.

5. Throw some plastic toys in the tub to see which ones float. Have your child play "lifeguard" to rescue the toys that sink.

6. Create an assembly line. You wash your child as she washes her waterproof doll or toy.

7. Put a tub twist on old familiar tunes. For example, sing, "Wash your right hand in, wash your right hand out. Do the Hokey Pokey as you rinse it off right now. That's what it's all about!" Or, "If you're happy and you know it, wash your tummy!"

8. Punch holes in the bottom of an empty yogurt container. Have your child fill it with bath water to make it "rain" in the tub.

10 Commandments for Couples I

I bought a small book by Dr. Harold Sala entitled 'TEN Commandments for Husbands and Wives'. And at times, reading the passages over, made me reflect on the things hubby and I with what we've been doing to make our relationship work.

Here, I wanna share with you the things found in the said book:

10 Commandments for Wives

1. Be proud you're a woman. 'Thou shat honor thy own womanhood that thy days may be long in the house which thy husband provides for thee.' Mothers should take care of themselves so that they can take care of their families. And be proud that you are given the opportunity to raise your own family despite the hardships and sacrifices that goes with it.

2. Live on your budget. 'Thou shalt not expect thy husband to give thee as many things as thy father hath given thee after many years of hard work and economies.' Okay, I do agree that living within budget will do no harm, keeping us away from financial worries in the future. And of course, even if hubby can provide for things, isn't it nice that, in order for us to get the things we want, we work for it too than just depend everything on hubby?

3. Keep a sense of humor in your marriage. 'Thou shalt not forget the virtue of good humor, for verily all that a man hath will he give for a woman's smile.' This is really important in a marriage, since humor keeps things at a minimum. Sometimes, when things get too complicated, a little humor now and then keeps it a little lighter, and hopefully, solves the problem, or even compromise.

4. Don't nag! 'Thou shalt not nag!' Says the Proverbs 21:9 , 'It is better to live in the corner of an attic, than with a crabby woman in a lovely home'. This was what I discovered when I became a mom and a wife, that once in a while, there will be times that nagging becomes a part of raising family, and it can have a positive effect. But then again, everything in excess is not good. So...

5. Pamper your husband. 'Thou shalt please thy husband for verily every man loveth to be fussedover.' It is a must to pamper hubby once in a while, it has an overall warming effect on the relationship. Who wouldn't want a hubby who lavishes you with all the caring and love he has for you?

***I would want to series this one because hey, I still have to read the whole book...

Sana Maulit Muli

This version is my most favorite version of the song Sana Maulit Muli which was done by RNB Princess Kyla and of course, Mr. Gary V. I really love the blending of these two artists. The melody becomes too beautiful!

Favorite Christian Songs

Lead Me Lord

The Warrior is A Child

Lately I've been winning battles left and right
But even winners can get wounded in the fight
People say that I'm amazing
I'm strong beyond my years
But they don't see inside of me
I'm hiding all the tears

Chorus:
They don't know that I come running home when I fall down
They don't know who picks me up when no one is around
I drop my sword and cry for just a while
(Look up for His smile)
'Coz deep inside this armor
The warrior is a child
(Aahhh)

Unafraid because His arrow is the best
But even soldiers need a quiet place to rest
People say that I'm amazing
I never face retreat, oh no
But they don't see the enemies
That lay me at His feet

Chorus:
They don't know that I come running home when I fall down
They don't know who picks me up when no one is around
I drop my sword and cry for just a while
(Look up for His smile)
'Coz deep inside this armor
The warrior is a child
(Aahhh)

They don't know that I come running home when I fall down
They don't know who picks me up when no one is around
I drop my sword and cry for just a while
(Look up for His smile)
'Coz deep inside this armor
The warrior is a child
(Aahhh)

The Prayer

Let this be our prayer
in my prayer
when shadows fill our day
Lead us to a place, guide us with your grace
Give us faith so we'll be safe

Sognamo un mondo senza pi violenza
un mondo di giustizia e di speranza
Ognuno dia la mano al suo vicino
Simbolo di pace, di fraternit

We dream a world without violence
a world of justice and faith.
Everyone gives the hand to his neighbours
Symbol of peace, of fraternity
La forza che ci d
We ask that life be kind
 il desiderio che
and watch us from above
ognuno trovi amor
We hope each soul will find
intorno e dentro s
another soul to love

The force his gives us
We ask that life be kind
is wish that
and watch us from above
everyone finds love
We hope each soul will find
around and inside
another soul to love
Let this be our prayer
Let this be our prayer, just like every child

Need to find a place, guide us with your grace
Give us faith so we'll be safe
Need to find a place, guide us with your grace
Give us faith so we'll be safe

 la fede che

Take Me Out Of The Dark

In times when we feel down and we don't have anyone else to turn to, we look up and surrender our sufferings to the Almighty. And when we finally talk our troubles to Him, we feel rested. This is one beautiful song by Gary Valenciano that I sing when I feel down.

TAKE ME OUT OF THE DARK

Just what is it in me?
Sometimes I just don't know
What keeps me in Your love,
Why you never let me go

And though you're in me now,
I fall and hurt you still
My Lord, please show me how
To know just how you feel

You have forgiven me
Too many times it seems
I feel I'm not what you might call
A worthy Christian after all

And though I love You so
Temptation finds its way to me

Teach me to trust in You
With all my heart
To lean not on my own understanding
I just forget
You won't give me what I can't bear

Take me out of the dark, my Lord
I don't wanna be there

You've never left my side
You gave Your hand to me to hold
Oh Jesus, I'm no longer in the cold

And yet, I leave You there
When I feel satisfied
I'd like to thank You every day
Not only when I feel that way

I've never known a Man
Who'd give His life for sinners like me
And yet, because He loves us so
He's promised us eternity
And we can have that promise
And be His if we have faith
And just believe

Teach us to trust in you
With all my heart
To lean not on my own understanding
We just forget
You won't give us what we can't bear

Take us out of the dark, My Lord
'Cause we don't want to be alone
Take me out of the dark, My Lord
We don't wanna be there, My Lord

Trust in You with all my heart
Lean not on my own understanding
I just forget
You won't give me what I can't bear

Take me out of the dark, My Lord
Cause we don't want to be alone
Take me out of the dark, My Lord
I don't want to be there

Living on One Income

The choice we've made just to be together with hubby is not going to be easy. It means I will have to stop working and tend to our kids. Although my income is just a support and not necessarily something that makes a real difference in our quality of life, I guess living on one income is not as hard as I think it is. Here are other ways to cope up with that reality:

1. Cut your grocery bill. No, don't go on a starvation diet. Instead, cut out convenience foods, such as precooked dinners and packaged snacks. They're priced to provide maximum profit for your grocer. Also, clip coupons. Avoid coupons that encourage you to buy new or packaged items that you might otherwise avoid, but seek out those that save you money on your staples.

2. Consolidate to one credit card with a low interest rate. A wallet full of cards just encourages you to spend. And many cards now offer very low interest rates. But be sure to read the fine print: some low-interest deals are just introductory offers.

3.. Barter with other families. One of the easiest things to barter is babysitting time. Connect with other families trying to cut back and trade babysitting services. You cut your child-care costs and you can still get out of the house once in a while.

4. Pull the plug on cable. Anything worth watching will turn up on video three months later.

5. Don't move. While it may be tempting to pull up stakes and move to a cheaper community, the financial cost and emotional burden of moving often makes this idea more trouble than it's worth. Instead, look for ways to reduce your current housing costs such as refinancing your mortgage or reducing your home-related taxes.

6. Save up cash to make any big purchases. This achieves two goals. One, it forces you to consider, over a lengthy period of time, how badly you really want a new sofa, computer, car stereo, etc. Second, by saving cash for the purchase, you avoid racking up a credit card bill and owing interest.

While all these steps will help, perhaps the most important part of life on less than two incomes is the support of your spouse. You both need to be committed to making the new financial arrangement work. If one spouse is working to contain costs and the other is out buying new CDs, the process is doomed. Whether it's because you want to spend more time with the kids, or because you and your family are getting through a rough patch of economic times, it's key that the family work as a team to make ends meet.

Stain Cleaners Found in the Kitchen

Addressing stains and other cleaning concerns need not be a very expensive and complicated task. Here are some solutions straight out of your pantry:

1. Cream of Tartar: A simple solution of one to two tablespoons of cream of tartar mixed with a quart of water and brought to a boil can be used to clean the items below. Just make sure that the mixture is cooled before applying.
  • Stains on aluminum pans
  • Ring-around-the-collar on shirts
  • Rust stains on clothes
  • Certain stains on marble or porcelain (for these items, you may choose to use three parts cream of tartar plus one part hydrogen peroxide)
2. Tea: Brewed tea, once cooled completely, is a good cleaner for wooden furniture or cabinets. Its properties cut through grime effectively and can be used on mirrors as well.

3. Club Soda: Known as an all-around stain remover, this can be used to remedy spills from wine, grease, fruit, and even chocolate. Just dab an appropriate amount on the surface and work carefully through the stain. In addition, club soda can also be used to clean gemstone jewelry by soaking the items to remove the grime.

4. Baking Soda: Often used as deodorizer in refrigerator spaces, baking soda also absorbs odors on upholstered material, carpets, laundry hampers, and even beddings. It can also be used to clean grout by creating a mild paste with hydrogen peroxide. Baking soda can remove marker stains on wood as well as coffee or tea stains on china.

5. Cornstarch: This handy pantry is great at absorbing grease on leather and other surfaces as well as excess polish from furniture. When sprinkled inside shoes and left to sit overnight, it can also reduce the smell of foul odors.

6. Used Dryer Sheets: These are good for dusting and shining jobs on various surfaces. Plus, they freshen the area.

7. Lemon: This simple citrus fruit can clean copper pans by adding some salt and scrubbing the stained area. It can clean and disinfect switch-plates as well as similar surfaces. It can also eliminate lime scale in bathrooms and can even whiten linens.

8. Vinegar: To help preserve fresh-cut flowers, add a solution of two-tablespoons white vinegar plus two tablespoons sugar mixed in a vase of water containing the plants. Vinegar can also get rid of scum and similar stains.

9. White Toothpaste: This can help erase crayon marks on walls and wooden furniture. It can, in addition, shine chrome surfaces such as faucets and other bathroom fixtures.

10. Ice: Although a very simple element of everyday living, ice can have many uses. One of them would be to plump carpet hair and other fibers by restoring their form. Another would be to help remove gum and other sticky substances from hair clothing and items of similar texture.

11. Bread: In addition to making cookies stay fresh longer and softening once hardened brown sugar by including a slice in an air-tight container, bread can also help remove scuffs and mild stains from wallpaper and painted surfaces.

12. Mayonnaise: Not known to many, mayonnaise can actually revitalize dried-up wood surfaces. It can remove water rings and lift crayon marks as well as eliminate the gum behind many stickers stuck to surfaces.

Homemade Facials

I love facials. It makes my skin glow and smooth and soft. One of the most soothing facials that I like is the Japanese Oxygenated Mask, but at times it can be costly. So, most of the time, I go for the alternative stuff (a.k.a. found in the refrigerator or kitchen).

I use banana, milk, honey, sugar, calamansi and oatmeal. I mix and match them and put it on my face for several minutes and I tell you, my face comes out smooth and soft. Be very careful though, if you skin is sensitive, I recommend you put it on your wrist first to see if there's an allergic reaction. If none, then go for it girl!

Here are some facials that I read from PioneerThinking:

Banana Honey Yogurt Facial Mask - Mash a banana thoroughly and mix it with 1 teaspoon honey and 2 teaspoons yogurt and apply it on the face evenly. Leave it on the face till the skin absorbs.

Avocado Facial Mask - Mash half an avocado and apply it on the face thoroughly everywhere and let it stay till it dries up completely and then wash it off with cold water.

Lip Spa

I was reading my favorite Spa email subscription and clicked on a link on how to get soft, sexy lips. Its definitely cheap and found in the kitchen.
